I would like to have a robot for my household chores. All together those tasks require quite some time and their iterative nature seems like a clear case for automation. But it appears tough already for the State of the art “laundroid” to just fold dark clothing. Luckily robotics has a more fruitful potential yet than cleaning after spoiled students. Before robots go domestic, they can first flourish in their talent of taking over boring and burdensome tasks. And manufactories are the perfect places to start releasing exploited humans from this type of work.
Unfortunately and interestingly enough, many people fear the rise of robotics for this particular reason. Because even in the most horrible working conditions around the world, unemployment is feared over exploitation. There is little gratitude in being freed from humiliating working conditions if it implies missing the money to survive. Makes sense.
From this perspective it seems unethical to implement innovation into industries. So should we deny factories of safer, cheaper, faster and more efficient processes? Technology in itself is never either good or bad and it would be a shame to not look for harmonious ways of adopting it. One solution has a pure ideology, but is rigorous to implement: the basis income.
With this comes the invalid fear of lazy people watching television at home all day long. Not you, your friends or family, but the other people. But studies show the importance of purpose that facilitate moments of happiness. Dare to assume “those other people” pursue happiness too. Properly introducing a basic income makes room for more meaningful to more meaningful (and therefore more productive) work. Imagine the hindsight amazement of future humans: “did some people just really have to do dreadful work to access basic needs? How barbaric!”
Robots could do our dirty work (yet excluding our laundry) while removing one’s desperate need for any job just to pay for basic needs. Only then, the amazing technology that lets our minds shift towards meaningful purpose over mere survival, can be welcomed with open arms by everyone.

In principe kan iedere activiteit worden gerobotiseerd.
En als die activiteiten dan beter en/of goedkoper kunnen worden uitgevoerd, zal de menselijk arbeid het afleggen.
Enerzijds een leven lang reizen, hotel in, hotel uit, maar wie betaalt dat? En zo komen we weer terecht in de Oudheid, met zijn slaven.
Om te overleven moeten de bakker, slager, schoenlapper vroeg of laat dus tijdig zelf een robot maken/kopen om te overleven. Strikt genomen hoef je zelf geen vak te kennen, maar moet je wel een goede neus hebben de juiste robots als slaafjes voor je te laten werken.
Tijd voor een serieuze science fiction.
Is het een anti of pro robot artikel of een pro basic income?
Beide, het is pro verbetering.
Slaafjes vind ik te antropomorfisch klinken Oop; noem jij je computer ook een slaaf?
Alle productie- en servicetechnologie robotica zal specifiek functioneel zijn en dan kom je niet op een menselijk uiterlijk uit (op de seksrobot na).
Helaas is mijn computer geen slaaf. Wat zou ik willen dat hij altijd alles deed wat ik wilde. Daar heeft meneer, mevrouw zo je wil, niet altijd goesting in, iets dat een echte slaaf, slavin wel uit zijn/haar hoofd, brein, software zou laten.
En het obertje in Japan (wat wenst meneel?) zag er toch heel menselijk uit, in de dienstensector zullen de knuffelrobotjes het m.i. zeker winnen van gewone noeste apparaten.
Het mooie is dat je niet eens doorhebt dat een computer alles doet wat je wil, juist omdat je het niet bewust meer hoeft te zeggen. Als je computer een initiatiefloze slaaf was, zou je elke keer moeten benadrukken dat ie iets uitrekent, of "kun je deze brief even op de digitale post doen?". Zo kun je alle technologie meer als werkvervangers zien, waarbij wij ons bezig houden met creatieve taakjes, tot ook die weer kunnen worden geautomatiseerd.
